Radios did not exist 500 years ago. Marconi demonstrated his first radio in the early 1900s and as first built and demonstrated only one transmitter could operate on the entire earth, if a second transmitter began operation it jammed the signal of all others. It was not until a few years before WW1 that the concept of assigning separate channels to transmitters and a mechanism to prevent interference was worked out. It was not until the 1920s that voice and music could be transmitted over radio. It was not until WW2 that Motorola built the first 2-way radio (Walky-Talky) for the US Military.
