Using pick is not a matter of number of strings, it is rather a matter of personal preference or style of music you are playing. With a 4-string bass, you can use both pick and fingers.
A plectrum (not sure if I got the spelling right)
go to ultimateguitar.com. the in the search bar search the song and then you will se on the left side there is a section that says guitar, guitar tabs, bass, bass tabs, and others click on bass tabs. then you can pick the one you think is the best(usually the closest to a 5 star is what you want).
First of all Guitar is the main instrumental when playing with others where as bass is for background. It is easier to play the bass and hard to tune where as the guitar is relatively easy but harder to play. You can do allot more things on guitar such as chords where as on a bass you can't really. They are both fun great instruments though. I personally would recommend playing guitar, which is what i do play, as you can play songs fully. Hope this Helped, Gordon
Play with a pick and you should be fine (it still might be a little quiet however)
Pick ups and knob components in a typical bass.
yes the hofner bass guitar is an electric bass guitar and by the way for your future reference look at the body of the bass or guitar to tell if its electric or not (look for pick-ups) and i would know because i own a 1966 hofner 500/1 violin style bass guitar

The main bass guitarist for the rock band Aerosmith is Tom Hamilton. Though Steven Tyler and Joe Perry have both been known to occasionally pick up a bass guitar and play.
If your guitar tuner won't pick up the sounds of the open bass strings, try playing the 12th fret harmonic on each string instead. In other words, gently touch each string at the 12th fret while you pluck the string. It will make the sound one octave higher and your tuner should be able to pick it up and allow you to tune your bass. Most newer tuners work fine with bass guitar, but back when I started playing 25 years ago, they only made guitar tuners and that's what I had to do.

There are many varieties of the Yahama bass guitar that are available in music stores across the country. Their prices depend on the quality you are looking for. For someone who is just starting to play a bass guitar you can pick one relatively cheap in the price range of $180. For the advanced player you can purchase one in the price range of $2000 and up.
You just can kinda tell that its wearing away. You also want a bigger grade of pick to really rock.
