Murdoc Niccals wanted to start a band. So he accidentally hit 2D with a car and eventually found out he was good with a piano and at singing. He incapacitated Russel while he was working at a music store in London. Noodle showed up in a Fedex box from Japan at their doorstep after Murdoc put an ad for a guitarist in a magazine. There ya go.

The idea to create the band came about when the two were watching MTV, "if you watch MTV for too long, it's a bit like hell - there's nothing of substance there. So we got this idea for a cartoon band, something that would be a comment on that," Hewlett said.

The band originally identified themselves as "Gorilla", and the first song they recorded was "Ghost Train", later released as a B-side on their single "Rock the House" and the B-side compilation G Sides.

Ok so theres this band called Gorillaz. There's a dude named Murdoc and he has been in a few bands before that didn't get that far in being famous. Well one day he was driving around but he is a reckless driver so he drove through a shop where Stu-Pot was working. The wreckage left him with an eye filled with blood that he can still see from. A couple months later, Murdoc was at a car park showing off to some chick. He had Stu-Pot in the car with him and he got thrown out of the window. It left Stu-Pot with 2 dents in his head and an eight-ball fracture. It also took him out of his coma from the first wreckage. Murdoc said that he seen his future front man because he wanted to make another band. So he renamed from Stu-Pot to 2-D. Next they needed a drummer so Murdoc was at some studio and I believe Russel had heard about them so he went to the studio. So then they had a drummer and his friends and brother had possessed him because they died at a drive-by shooting. His brother was a rapper so they also had a rapper in the band. All they needed was a guitarist. Well, Murdoc had put an ad in the paper or on a poster or something like that. He recalls it saying they needed a guitarist and no hippies. The same day the poster got published, they got a ten foot Fed-Ex package. They opened it up and a Japanese person jumped out. She did an awesome guitar solo and ended it with a karate jump and kick or something like that. Then the girl said Noodle. That was her name given by Murdoc. The uhh finally had a band.
