His parents! One noteworthy teacher at the school for the arts he attended in Netherlands was the notable artist Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita. De Mesquita might be more widely known, but his life was cut short in the Nazi death camps during WW2; Escher and other friends saved a few of his works overlooked by the Nazis.
