If you are by yourself, and playing with absolutely no amp or other gadgets whatsoever, you can play, but you won't get any volume. If you're with some other people, and they have a PA system available, some of the things you can do are to plug your guitar into a "DI", or direct box, and patch it into the PA. (These run about a $60-$150 for a good one). You can plug your guitar into a guitar effects pedal, or an effects processor, as this will act as a preamp for you, and patch this into the PA. Or with an acoustic that doesn't have any electric capabilities, you can place a microphone in front of while you're playing.
