if it's an "ithaca mag-10", it was introduced in 1977 and discontinued in 1986, the answer to your question is yes it is safe to shoot steel loads, however you may want to have the choke measured at the muzzle by you local gunsmith.too much constriction could result in a barrel ring and a more open choke should give you a better pattern with larger sizes of steel shot i.e. t and bbb. pbl
