Do you have to learn acoustic guitar before learning bass?
No! In fact I beg you not to! There are too many guitarist out there who play bass. It's a different instrument and should not be assumed to be the same. Start by playing bass and get a feel for what the bass does in songs. If you learn guitar first you'll get greedy and try to do too much with the bass and it can easily ruin a song. The trick to bass is knowing what not to play. It's not about fast paced finger picking. Its about keeping the song going. There will be songs where the bass can go crazy and its one of the most impacting instruments to solo with, but only if its a rarity. Also, chords are not used very often on bass but are essential on acoustic guitar so its not a necessary skill to focus on learning
