Foo fighters Following Kurt Cobain's death in April of 1994, Grohl had some time to himself before doing a brief stint with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Tom Petty asked him to stay perminently, be he declined. Instead he formed his own band with ex-Nirvana touring Guitarist Pat Smear called "Foo Fighters" They released their first self-titled album in July 1995.
