Where did Goth start?

The Goth you are familar with, such as 17 and 18 year olds running round shopping malls in all black, white face etc.. aparantly London.

But there are deeper roots with Germanic tribes.... but that's a whole different story!!

The Castle of Otranto by Horatio Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford (24 September 1717 - 2 March 1797), more commonly known as Horace Walpole. Is considered to be the first Gothic novel. (and its not very good, bad in fact)

During the Middle Ages, 1150 to 1500, in Europe, an example of this architectural style is the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims. There was a revival of this style from 1840 to 1900, an example is the Palace of Westminster.

Critic John Stickney used the term "gothic rock" to describe the music of The Doors in October 1967. ]. Stickney wrote that the band met the journalists "in the gloomy vaulted wine cellar of the Delmonico hotel, the perfect room to honor the gothic rock of the Doors". The author noted that contrary to the "pleasant, amusing hippies", there was "violence" in their music and a dark atmosphere on stage during their concerts.
