the first stones gig was sidcup art school 1961 Christmas dance held in a working mens club off station rd they were paid £27-10s the fire chief stopped the fun because the false ceiling was to low the dancers instantly pulled all the hard work off the wires and the party carried on it was brilliant two windows were broken on a door but the club paid the bill because it was their buisiest night ever we took enough money on the cloak room to pay for the hall dances prior to 1961 had been held at S.A.S. but because of students naughty pranks with beds from the local hospital they were banned

NOT *** Swing Auditorium San Bernardino, california *** NOT

Perhaps somebody is having a little joke with San Bernardino. I think by now just about everybody in the world knows that the Rolling Stones and its members did not emerge from the dusty summer night and drive-ins of Southern California.

The Rolling Stones and its members are from England (close to London mostly), so not surprisingly, their first public concert was in London, on 12 July 1962 at the Marquee Club. The club was still at its original location then, on the Soho stretch of Oxford Street at the corner of Poland Street. This is in central London, in England. Apart from four shows in Wales, one in Canada, and two in Scotland, all of their performances over the next two years were in England.

Then they played their one-and-only concert in that San Bernardino Auditorium two years later on 5 June 1964. It was their first tour-date show in North America, but not their first concert in North America. They played at the Ottawa Auditorium (Canada) on 24 April 1964, before venturing"South of the Border" to San Bernardino.
