located on the fire wall left side there are 2 8mm screws holding it in may need to put a screwdriver behind and slightly pry the resistor if the screws just seem like they are just spinning and not coming out .
to test first look under the dash in back of the glove box and locate the harness with 2 wires one green and one black with a tan trace I suggest unplugging the harness and use a power probe to power up the blower and make sure it works the green is the pos 12volt and black is ground if the blower fires up then goto the resistor . no need to really check this its a 10 dollar part that is often bad just replace it no worries it is probably the problem I rarely see the control switch bad or the blower so good luck and just remember half of the job is having the right tools to test I highly suggest investing in a POWER PROBE. makes things really easy to test

To test the blower motor resistor, unplug the resistor connector. Each blower motor switch input terminal on the resistor must have continuity to the resistor output terminal, which is connected to the circuit going to the blower motor. If the blower motor resistor continuity does not check OK, replace the faulty resistor. You need a multimeter to test the resistor block and there should be continuity between all terminals.
The blower motor resistor block is located on the underside of the HVAC housing (Heater Box) next to the blower motor. The blower motor is located at the right side of the dashboard. You can access the blower motor resistor block from under the dashboard. A Word of Caution! Stay clear of the blower motor resistor block heat sink - It could be Hot. Incidentally, I have read about people working on their dashboards and setting off the airbag. It is a good thing to disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery and make sure that it can not touch the battery post. Wait at least a couple of minutes for the airbag system to discharge.
the black and red wires with the square plug goes into the blower motor. the other plus is constint power wire, ground, and ign switch wire.
Blown fuse? Bad switch Bad fan motor? Bad fan relay?
Check connections at the blower motor, blower motor resistor and at the switch. You may find a melted connection.
Under the dash, far passenger side.
Diagram for location of blower motor resistor can be found herehttp://autorepair.about.com/library/images/bl441a-lib.htm
Your truck has both. the resistor is between the switch & blower.thje resistor controls the blower speed
For the 1989 Dodge Ram, the heater blower motor resistor can be found on the passenger's side, on the bottom of the heater box. It is beside the blower motor.
check the blower motor resistor pack. should be firewall side of heater rectangular connector with 4 or 5 wires.
Blower motor is under the dash on the passenger side.
Under the dash on the passenger side in front of the blower motor. You will see 5 wires going into a plug held in by 2 screws. That is the blower motor resistor.
I belive it is located down under the dash on the passenger side. the older dakotas where mounted on the passenger side of the fire wall. a blower motor resister is usually located close to the actual blower motor.
Under the dash below glove box. You will see the blower motor and it's to the left of it. You will see a wire harness going to it.
replace the blower motor switch
Could be a bad blower motor, or, look to the blower motor resistor mounted on the engine firewall on the passenger side near the top of the firewall inside the engine compartment. It will have five wires going to it. It is likely either burnt out, or the wires have shorted at or near the resistor.
The resistor block or blower motor resistor is used to control the speed of the blower motor. That is how you get the lower speeds on your air conditioning or heater. The higher the resistance the lower the speed of the motor.
