Teddy Pendergrass sang lead vocals with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. He joined the group in the early 1970s and contributed to their success with hits like "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and "Wake Up Everybody." Pendergrass's powerful and soulful voice became a defining feature of the group's sound during his tenure. He later enjoyed a successful solo career after leaving the group.
I think the first real album was " Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes " released in 1972. it seems that all previous recordings made before Teddy Pendergrass joined were released as singles on various labels.

Teddy wasn't from Mississippi. He was born in Philadelphia, PA. He started his singing career at a church in Philadelphia and attended school in Philly up to the 11th grade, after which he dropped out to pursue a music career. He was a member of several local bands in the area, and was discovered in 1970 by Harold Melvin (of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, another Philly group). Their first successful hit with Teddy was "I Miss You", a song that was also produced in Philadelphia, PA. It's still a classic.
l Melvin and the blue notes was a guy and bisexual group.
Originally Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes (lead singer Teddy Pendergrass) in 1972. Lots of covers but the big one was in 1989 by Simply Red (lead singer Mick Hucknall)
