There is some scant evidence that Bach owned a piano at some point later in his life, but he never wrote for the piano, and may in fact never have played one for any significant length of time, if ever. Pianos were very new in Bach's day, and Bach did very well for himself writing for organ, harpsichord, clavicord, chorus and various instrumental ensembles. Although many pianists give wonderful performances of Bach's music, and modern pianos are absolute wonders compared with Cristofori's ground-breaking inventions, Bach had no need of them.
