The action is simple, with the keys being levers with a small piece of metal similar in shape and size to the head of a flat-bladed screwdriver, at the far end. The strings, are usually arranged in pairs, like a lute or mandolin. When the key is pressed, the metal piece strikes the strings above, causing them to sound in a similar fashion to the hammering technique on a guitar.

A portable keyboard instrument , acoustic pattern. ( there were some electrified Clavichords made in l963 or so by a German outfit, but sadly they never caught on. a Portable cross between a guitar and a piano-like instrument-One modern ione is called the Clavitar. A local music-store proprietor had one in the window and it was, if nothing else a conversation piece. If any major Rock Group took these things up- as some did use the Sitar, Steel Guitar, and other unusual forms of the stringed instrument, it would have been interesting.
