It is a shame that Buddy Holly died so young, because he undoubtedly would have become even more famous than he did. His main achievement was having a number of hit songs in the early years of rock & roll, as a member of the rockabilly group Buddy Holly & the Crickets, and as a solo artist. His two biggest were probably "That'll Be the Day" (with the Crickets) and "Peggy Sue" (as a solo artist). To this day, his hit songs from the 1950s are still performed by contemporary rock and country performers.
According to the movie "The Buddy Holly Story", The Crickets came up with the name one night while trying to record a song on Buddy's tape recorder. ..While they were singing and recording in Buddy's garage, they kept hearing a "chirrup" sound from a cricket; and wondered where the noise was coming from. ..They found out that the sound was indeed coming from a cricket that somehow got into the feathered insulation along the back wall. Having discovered the noise, the two singers , including Buddy Holly, decided that the name would go well with the group.
The song "Walk Right Back" was written by Sonny Curtis, originally a backing singer with Buddy Holly's group The Crickets. The song was written with a single verse and recorded by The Everly Brothers - singing the same verse twice. Curtis returned to the brothers the following day with a second verse written, and Curtis got a note back from his Crickets bandmate Jerry Allison telling him that the boys had already completed the song.
