Why does the industry refer to Spanish music as Latin music?

It's not (just) Spanish. Latin America is all of the countries south of the United States that don't speak English, including Brazil which is Portuguese, and Suriname which is Dutch, and French Guiana which is French. The reason is that all of those languages supposedly evolved from Latin because the European Countries that speak them were once part of the Roman Empire, but English came from the Anglo/Saxon peoples who were NOT from the Roman Empire where Latin was spoken 2000 years ago. So Latin Music comes from those countries in America (Western Hemisphere of Earth) that speak languages from European countries which formerly spoke Latin in the Roman Empire. Spanish Music from Spain shouldn't be called Latin Music, nor is any other European Music called Latin Music, although technically only Roman Catholic Hymns in the Vatican City (and elsewhere) are really sung in Latin. (such as "Ave Maria", and "Gloria in Excelsus Deo")
