Who composed O'canada?

The earliest would be the late 1800's, around 1880. The final version, the one you know today was written around 1908, but there are still different versions including bilingual versions which mix French and English.

The original French version was written in 1880, and has remained unchanged. It was translated into English in 1906, and another version, differing from the direct translation from the French was written in 1908. It has undergone a number of revisions. The version currently used was adopted in 1980, when O Canada officially became the national anthem.

The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée. The work was commissioned in 1880, by the then Lt Governor Robitaille, for the ceremony of St. Jean-Baptiste Day.
