I don't know who was influence for whole band, but I'm pretty sure that John is influenced by the work of Syd Barrett, the founder of Pink Floyd. He used to play a tribute to him sometimes.

Lead singer Anthony Keidis, bassit Flea, original drummer Jack Irons and original guitarist Hillel Slovak all attend Fairfax high school in Los Angeles, California. After some time under different names they became Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1983.

Slovak would die of a heroin overdose in 1988 and be replaced by John Frusciante.

Irons would leave shortly after Slovaks death and be replaced by Chad Smith.
