He was the author and composer of the hymn 'We've a story to tell to the nations.' He was a musician, who originally planned to be an engineer. He was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England in 1862. He graduated from Oxford University in 1888 and composed a number of tunes, mainly for Sunday School anniversaries. For those for which he wrote the words as well, he used the pseudonym Colin Sterne, an anagram using most of the letters of his second name and surname. He dies in Skirlaugh, near Hull on 30 August in either 1926 or 1928.
