Laurie is a nickname for Laura, by extension Lara of Dr. Zhivago fame. There was a record company called Laurie in the fifties and sixties. there were several songs that used this name or a variation thereof- oddly nearly all morbid. Laurie is an odd song that seems to have no logical explanation other than- mistaken identity or two people who look alike but are unrelated- this might plug the logic gap. no poet Laureate needed, pun intended.
