Sinéad O'Connor (Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor, born December 8, 1966) is an Irish songwriter and singer who attained popularity beginning in the late 1980's and is known for her 1990 hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" (from the album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got).

O'Connor received notoriety and criticism for her appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 3, 1992. During a rendition of the song "War", she changed a lyric line to "child abuse" and tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II (then 16 years into his service as the Roman Catholic pontiff).
