Michael Crawford- was the first Phantom, so his voices changes a lot from high to low, he has a fantastic voice, he is a baritone with a falsetto. In 1986 Crawford won an Olivier Award (Best Actor in a Musical). In 1988 a Tony Award from Broadway (Best Performance By An Actor in a Lead Role, Musical), an N.Y's Drama Desk Award. In 1989 a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Distinguished Achievement in Theatre (Lead Performance). During the run of Phantom in Los Angeles, Crawford was asked to perform "The Music of the Night" at the Inaugural Gala for President George Bush in Washington, D.C., on 19 January 1989. At the gala, Crawford was presented with a birthday cake (it was his own 47th birthday). Gerard Butler- his singing is over whelmed and over shadowed by Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson, he needs training and notice his weakness when sings with his co-stars. Colm Wilkinson- gives the role some disturbing pathos, alone, doomed feel, Christine you are my only hope to live. His rendition of "The Point of No Return" with Rebecca Caine is considered one of the definitive interpretations, as featured on compilation recording of Lloyd Webber's hits. Howard Mcgillin- he looks great in tux, but his singing well he wants to bring terror back into the Phantom he does a great job. He holds the record for the most performances by an actor in the role on Broadway, and was part of the musical when it became the longest-running production in Broadway history on January 9, 2006, and its twenty-first anniversary on January 26, 2009. Anthony Crivello- He has the most amazing voice. His upper register is so beautiful. Accordingly to the Los Vegas Review Journal Anthony brings menace to the role with subtlety and balance, his phantom is with Phantom of the Opera Spectaculor in Los Vegas 2008. Hugh Panaro-He is currently playing the Phantom on Broadway. He is noted for his hypnotic performance with a strong voice, he is worth the $75 a ticket. He is recognized by fans of the show as it earned him a Theatregoers' Choice Award Nomination for Best Actor in a Take Over Role in 2007. Robert Guillaume - He replaced Michael Crawford in the Los Angeles 1990 Phantom of the Opera, he is the first and only African American to play the Phantom. He has a rich baritone voice, his singing blending well almost effortlessly with Dale Kristien's soprano voice. He had hard time filling the shoes of Michael Crawford's Phantom but in a few performance he commanded the show delighting the audience. His singing is only available on youtube. Rebecca Caine- She was less of a hypnotised Christine and more of a Christine with both feet on the ground, although she was in awe of the phantom. She joined the original cast of Phantom of the Opera to play Christine opposite Michael Crawford as alternate (performing 2 shows a week) when original Christine Sarah Brightman left the show. Andrew Lloyd Webber, who greatly admired Caine's portrayal of Christine in the London production, also strongly suggested she take the role. At the time, Caine was very close to signing a contract to star in another West End show. She decided to move to Canada and joined the Phantom of Opera cast in 1989.
