Playing fast solos does not necessarily mean that your a great guitarist. I myself can play extremely fast solos and have it sound awesome, without much effort. Hendrix's style of playing was unique and had meaning in each note. Now that's what made him such a gifted guitarist. - Havok

This scope of your' question is so huge, I could likely drive a Buick through it. This is also a question of opinion and perspective. I "like" Albert King, Johnny Winters and Kenny Wayne Sheppard. These may not even been in the category you would normally look for the best guitarest. Every genre of music has it's greats. Comparing them is like comparing an apple and an ardvark. It's difficult to do and everyone will argue over who is really the best.
