Freddie Mercury died at the age of 45, in December 1991. Sometimes some of the bands members (John Deacon=Bass Guitarist Brian May=Guitarist Rodger Taylor=Drummer)

As Freddie Mercury once said in an interview, there is no leader in the band. Freddie is the lead singer, Brian May is the lead guitarist, Roger Taylor is the drummer, and John Deacon is the bassist. They're just four equal men who have all made great contributions to the band. :)

Queen's lead singer was Freddie Mercury. It has to be noted, though, that Roger Taylor (the drummer) and Brian May (the guitarist) also sang lead vocals on some Queen songs.
