actually Izzy Stradlin went to high school with Axl Rose but I don't know about the rest. I know for a fact because i went to a biography page and they both went to the same high school and Slash didn't
The name Guns N' Rose came from the fact that the members of Guns N' Roses had circulated in a bunch of bands on the Sunset Strip for quite a while. Guns N' Roses is the combination of the bands names from Hollywood Rose, and L.A. Guns. Those two bands had some of their members combined (aka the original Guns line-up) and it created Guns N' Roses.
For more information I would suggest reading Watch You Bleed or Appetite for Destruction (two biographies on GN'R).
You can also read more about them on the web here:

Gun's N' Roses formed in Hollywood, California 1985. It came into existence through the combination of L.A. Guns (Tracii Gun's band) and Hollywood Rose (Axl Rose's band)
Original line-up:
Axl Rose, Tracii Guns, Izzy Stradlin, Ole Biech, Rob Gardner
However this line up did not last long at all, soon Gun's Biech and Gardner were replaced by the most famous line-up (and the line up used to record the first album in 1989):
Appetite for Destruction (1989) line-up:
Axl Rose, Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler
Guns N' Roses was formed by Slash and Steven later they found Duff Izzy and Axl!!!
NO!! First there was LA Guns and Hollywood Rose. Various Guns musicians were in both. Tracii Guns and Axl Rose decided to form a band with Izzy, Duff, and a drummer called Rob something, hence the name Guns n Roses. Guns quit after about a week and they brought in Slash. Then when Duff booked them a tour, the drummer quit and Slash brought in old friend Steven.
Guns N' Roses was originally formed through an amalgamation of two bands: Hollywood Rose and the L.A. Guns, with the following line-up:
Axl Rose - Vocals
Tracii Guns - Lead Guitar
Izzy Stradlin - Rhythm Guitar
Ole Beich - Bass Guitar
Rob Gardner - Drums
Although this was the original line-up, it did not last long and the line-up on the debut album Appetite for Destruction is often cited as the original:
Axl Rose - Vocals
Slash - Lead Guitar
Izzy Stradlin - Rhythm Guitar
Duff McKagan - Bass Guitar
Steven Adler - Drums
