Publishers for the most part. Music that is reprinted contains a new copyright year ... so another 70 years must pass before it becomes public domain. But if the copyright is renewed (perhaps another printing) then the 70 years easily becomes 140 years before it is no longer copyrighted.

The works themselves are in the public domain, although certain editions, performances, recordings, and arrangements may have their own copyrights.

The composer or performer. Copyright laws in the US cover all music composition until 70 years after death of the original composer. If the manuscript has been made part of the family trust (that is passed on from one member to another) the copyright will be in effect for all eternity.

Based on the life dates of Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) his music is long in the public domain.

The longest copyright term in the EU countries is currently life plus seventy, that is, the lifetime of the composer plus seventy years after his death. However, previous copyright terms were much shorter and Beethoven's works had already fallen into public domain before the EU voted to amend existing copyright laws to life plus seventy.

Therefore, anyone is free to use or arrange his works, provided that the name of the original composer is indicated.

Being that Pachelbel has been dead for over 300 years now, all of his music has long since entered public domain. This means that no one owns his music. However, modern recordings ARE owned by whoever made them.

If it's a recording then the performer/ record company.

If it's a score then nobody- Schubert's family would have held the copyright until 50 years after his death.

No one owns the license of Mozart's work, since copyright did not even come into existence until the late 1960s. Mozart's work is no one's property that I know of.
