Ah, what a lovely question! Don Adams, who played Maxwell Smart in the show, actually played the electric guitar in the old theme song. It's always wonderful to see actors sharing their many talents with the world.

The Taggart theme was undoubtedly a complete ripoff of Baker Street. Although the original Taggart theme (the one I'm familiar with) didn't have any sax. I just listened to the theme on Youtube to confirm it.

Depends on what you consider the solo. The intro riff of the short TV version was played on synth by Ron Wasserman. The real guitar solo from the long version of the theme was played by me, Ron Kenan
