LeAnn Rimes was the first to record the song (and had the biggest chart success).

Diane Warren wrote the song for her to sing. Touchstone Pictures initially planned for Rimes' version to be featured in their movie Con Air (1997), but later found out that it was too pop sounding and it was believed that she was too young. Trisha Yearwood was chosen to re-record the song. That version was released on May 27, 1997to country radio and appeared in the film. When Rimes heard of the release, her version was quickly released on the same day to pop radio.
