There were many composers of the Baroque period, which lasted from around 1600 to 1750. Some of the prominent composers of this time included, but were not limited to, J.S. Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell, Corelli and Rameau. There were many others, such as Monteverdi (one of the founders of the era), Telemann, Scarlatti, Lully and Buxtehude. Of these, Bach and Handel are held in the highest regard.
Johann Sebastian Bach is often considered the father of Baroque music, though this is a debated topic.
It also depends on the genre of baroque music; for example, J S Bach was certainly not the father of baroque Opera - that was Monteverdi, who popularised the new style (first imagined by a group called the Camerata) with operas like Orfeo, his first opera, which was written in 1607. This opera is still performed regularly today, as are many of his other operas, unlike the previous operas written by members of the Camerata.
The baroque period was from 1600 to 1760. 150 years and nearly 500 composers. Several Bachs and Scarlattis, Handel, Pachelbel, Monteverdi, Purcell, Vivaldi and many others, were of the baroque period.
