Blue Jeans
In 1873 Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis invented blue jeans.
The denim pants that we now call "blue jeans" or just "jeans" for short were invented in 1871 by Jacob Davis in partnership with Levi Strauss and Company.
Before that time the term "blue jeans" was used to a wide variety of garments, including trousers, overalls, and coats, that were made of blue denim.

∙ 15y agoBelieve it or not but the crew of Columbus had a jean type material so the material has been around for centuries. The "jean" we know today comes to us from the California gold rush ( 1850). Miners needed strong clothing to stand in the dirt and water day by day, but the material wore out often. There was a miner and tailor by the name of Strauss who decided to put metal brads on the corners of his pockets and reinforce other sections. Soon miners all around him wanted a pair of jeans like his, so he started to make them and the rest is history. The blue color comes from the indigo plant which was grown for the color blue and one the most used to get that color. It was grown in the colonies as one of our import products to England along with the cotton.
