Elvis Presley.

The first Rock'n'roll song released in New Zealand was a version of Bill Hayley's 'Rock Around the Clock' in 1955 by Johnny Cooper, a country singer known as 'The Maori Cowboy'. Johnny Cooper was also one of the first to release a New Zealand written Rock'n'roll song when his track 'Pie Cart Rock'n'roll' was released in 1957. At the same time a teenager named Sandy Tansley released a song he wrote about the need to learn surf life-saving techniques called 'Resuscitation Rock'. Both tracks were released within a couple of weeks of each other but there is some confusion over which one was first.
