The first person to find Elvis "non-responsive" was his girlfriend, who lived with him at Graceland, named Ginger Alden.

Ginger Alden, after seeing Elvis was in dire straits, called downstairs and spoke with Joe Esposito (Elvis' longtime friend who he met while in the US Army) who tried to revive Elvis and then called the Operator (as there was not a "911" service back in 1977) who called for the Ambulance which arrived about 25 minutes later.

Lisa Marie Presley was at Graceland at the time as Elvis was to leave the following day to start his Tour and Lisa was to fly back to California to be with her Mother Priscilla.

Elvis died on August 16, 1977 at his home in Memphis Tennessee named "Graceland". Elvis' girlfriend, Ginger Alden, was the first to determine that Elvis was dead/dying and she immediately called downstairs and spoke to Elvis' longtime friend (they met in the Army as Elvis as inducted in 1958) Joe Esposito who ran upstairs, saw Elvis was dead/dying, and called the Operator (there was no "911" then) who called for an Ambulance which arrived about 20 minutes later.
