The Art of Fugue (or The Art of the Fugue) was written by Johann Sebastian Bach. It was one of his final compositons. Further, he did not complete it befor he died; it was an unfinished work. A link can be found below for more information.
There are many works with this same title, composed by as many composers. The most performed work by this title is by JS Bach.
It is very doubtful that this work is actually by JS Bach. It is inferior to his other works, particularly fugues and, although probably German, its style is not similar to that of JSB.

Bach actually wrote two toccata-and-fugue pairs in D minor, both in 1708. The most famous one (appeared in the original Fantasia movie, and often used as a stock piece of generic "scary music") is BWV 565. The other, sometimes called the "Dorian" toccata and fugue, is BWV 538. Check the number if you're looking to buy a recording!
Is the oorgan polyphonic in toccata and fugue d minor
There are many composers who wrote a 'toccata in D minor' . Probably the most famous is the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565 by JS Bach.
We need to find out if Bach even wrote toccata and fugue first. It is usually accepted that it is a piece by a very young Bach. If he did write it, it is very different from every other fugal that Bach wrote. He probably made it quickly because if Bach did write this, it was as a practice or test piece.

Heavens no. Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Pachelbel, and many other prominent composers used the title "Toccata and Fugue".

Toccata and fugue in d minor.
Bach's notable Toccata and Fugue was written during the Baroque era, as was Handel's famous Water Music Suite.
Toccata and Fugue in D minor
one organ
It generally includes a toccata, kind of like a prelude, and a fugue, where four voices in this case literally compete against each other since counterpoint means "notes against notes".
