Her passive father did and said nothing of importance. With everyone controlling her, Karen felt the only part of her life she could control was her weight, so she starved herself to death trying to have some control that everyone else denied her. Prior to the death of Karen Carpenter, almost no one knew about anorexia nervosa or bulimia. Ms. Carpenter's death on Feb. 4, 1983 made eating disorders world famous. Prior to Feb. 4, 1983, only a few doctors knew anything about eating disorders. Read the 2010 book: "Little Girl Blue, The Life of Karen Carpenter" by Randy Schmidt. It explains how an excellent drummer/singer could starve herself to death when she felt she had no control in her life and nothing to live for.
