Steven tyler wrote that song because he thought he would never make it to the big time because he had always wanted to be a musician. He knew he was getting older and he wanted to tell that no matter how old you get if you really want it then you will get there.
He wrote it on the piano when he was 17.

:D good question. As an extreme fan of steven tyler I try to fill my self with all sorts of facts about his career and life. He mainly was as high as a kite when he made this song but in one interview he said that he made this song as a homage to all the rock legends that he worshiped as a child, mainly saying that he wanted to be like them and that was his dream ever since then Aerosmith and Steven Tyler's career has gone skyward!

Well, steven tyle wrote the song when he was 17 and on the rode to becoming famous. He had broken up with his past semi-famous band chain reaction, and REALLY wanted to be famous and in a band. The lyrics are pretty much describing his thoughts. "dream on, dream on, dream until your dream comes truuuuue" is pretty much saying just keep dreaming nd you can do it..just like he did. It's all about his desire and "dream" to become famous.
Steven Tyler's favorite Aerosmith songs are No Surprize and No More, No More.
