I think it was because when the band wrote the song, it was very personal to the twins. But also Bill doesn't like the fact that many young people commit suicide though depression, and doesn't like seeing fans hurt themselves. I think it may have also been because it is a very emotional song in general.
Also, if you are referring to a video on YouTube with Tom crying that is a fake one. He has wiped off sweat but there are no pics or video of him crying during that song.
