No, I don't think this at all. This song was the first video to be aired on MTV. It is sung by the group the Buggles. But to answer your question; radio is extremely popular and well in place. Videos on the other hand are not as popular as they once were when MTV was in its early years.
Frankie Vallie (and the four seasons) had a successful career well into the sixties but was considered inappropriate for video possibly because of his height or he was not considered good looking enough.
