For the same reason that you don't eat grass...because their metabolism is not set up to deal with it. You could eat grass by the handful and it would do you no harm, but your body would have no way to extract any nutrient from it. Same with birds. Their bodies are set up to extract goodness and vitamins and all the other stuff from seeds and grains and nuts and berries. Cows can eat grass because they have 4 stomachs to pass it through to extract whatever grass contains nutritionally. Phil

Buy food especially for smaller garden birds. the crows may not like the food as much. also food for garden birds is generally smaller , the crows will probably not spend time eatin tiny bits of food that won't fill them up!!!
