Why do some boys do dumb stuff?

Their brains are wired a little differently. I don't know how old this boy is (probably has not matured yet), but there are some very good books to read on the subject: i.e. Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Being older I have had some experience in that department and wish I had not found the bad boys exciting. Good character (not self-centered) and stable are the qualities to look for. And remember women have the power and have to keep men in line (a wise male friend told me that). Best book for you as you get into the dating scene is probably ("How to Act Like a Lady, and Think Like a Man" ).
