If it's a gas dryer, it could be a gas leak if its gas fumes you smell. If it's burning rubber, it could be a belt. Also, your lint filter could need a good cleaning with warm water and soap. That will take off the residue from dryer sheets and let the air flow better. Test this by holding the filter under water. If it puddles, it needs a cleaning. After cleaning, test again and I'll bet the water goes right through it. Do this every 6 months or so to save energy and prevent fires.
I had the same problem on my 2001 EX, usually when it was cold out, I would smell raw gas fumes. there is a spring clamp on the fuel pressure regulator intake, simply replace it with a flat spiral type clamp you can get at any hardware store or Home depot for 39 cents. when it's cold the spring type doesn't seal properly between the rubber hose and the metal pipe. when it warms up, it seals. just change the clamp. Also might be the back door is not closing full enough to seal against the rubber edge , and the vaccum sucks up the fumes inside!.
You need a separate dryer. I bought an all in one unit (washes & dries), but the dryer took forever & left the clothes wrinkled.

This may be related to the oils used on some parts of the inner mechanisms of the dryer. When heated, the oils could smell slightly similar to the smell of a gas dryer. Or, your dryer could be pulling in odors (car exhaust fumes, outdoor cooking grills, etc.) from outside through the venting system.
