they are 100% handmade and amongst the best sound quality out of any piano. Bosendorfers in my opinion are better for similar money.

How much does a steinway d cost?

Ah, well, that depends on if you are buying new. ^.^; New, steinways are about 135,000 dollars.. if you are buying used... Then that depends.. Some older steinways could be much more. Steinways have APPRECIATING values, instead of depreciating values, so as the get older, they tend to raise in value.. Really, they are the best(IMHO) piano's you could buy. There are even articles about investing in Steinway pianos instead of stocks, as they grow in value. I know there are mixed reviews on this though.. Some sources on the net say they do depreciate. (On one forum, based on Larry Fines piano book) Says that a 20 year old Steinway in "better" condition is 68,000$.. So yeah, I hope that I helped in some way. ;)

How does bosendorfer compare with steinway and sons?

A Bosendorfer and a Steinway are designed and built in a very different way, and therefore have a very different sound.Treble: Bosendorfer does not enhance the treble, unlike Steinway who do by the use of a 'duplex scale' ... therefore the Bosendorfer treble area is generally less bright.Bass: Bosendorfer enhances the bass area by using a taller and more fanned or wider spaced out bridge, giving a thick deep sound ... and yes, often thicker and deeper than Steinway ... but most music is not 'bass only' ...So put these two together .. and a Bosendorfer has a big bass matched with a not so strong treble. You should also compare that 99% of worldwide concert halls have a Steinway piano as a musical industry standard.

How much is a Hering toy piano made in Brazil cost?

How much to ship a piano from CA to IL?

Do you mean a full size piano? If so you will need a mover to do this and that can run several hundred dollars. If you mean a small lap type one or the kind on a stand FedEx will probably cost you 100-200.

How much does a real piano cost?

First, I'll assume that by "real" you mean a traditional wooden instrument with a full keyboard, as opposed to something like a synthesizer. It really depends on the size and style of the piano and the brand name. For example, a lower-end Yamaha vertical (in which the wires are strung upright) piano may cost as little as $5000 USD, whereas a Baldwin may cost half as much. A "baby" grand piano from Steinway could run you anywhere from $50,000 to $100,000 USD, but you can find a full-size concert grand piano by Baldwin priced around $60,000. If you're just starting out, you might be okay with just a cheap used piano from ebay. A quick search there shows uprights from $300-$3000 USD, and grands (mostly baby grands) from $1500-$15000 USD. See the Related Links section below for the website where you can find these costs.

What are the names of accomplished steinway pianists?

Go to http://www.steinway.com/artists There are over 1,600 pianists who ... without being paid to do so, endorse the Steinway piano ... for the love of the instrument, most of whom will not play any other brand in concert. Too many to accomplished artists to mention.

What is the price for a piano?

It depend what piano your talking about. Uprights usually cost less than grands but it still depends on the brand, year, model, and so on. Brand new pianos can cost more and sometimes less than used pianos. Steinway and Sons pianos tend to appreciate in value with age. the general price range is anywhere from: $0.00 to $250,000.00. Some people will even pay you to get a piano out of there house or will just let you take it for free. Some pianos will also cost more that two hundred fifty thousand dollars but generally they do not.

Was there a lawsuit filed between Steinway and Sons and pianist Garrick Ohlsson?

Yes, there was a legal dispute between Steinway and Sons and pianist Garrick Ohlsson. Ohlsson sued Steinway in 2015 for breach of contract and false advertising regarding a piano he had been promised. The case was settled out of court in 2017.

What piano is the best piano?

Any answere to this question essentialy contaning the name of the "best" piano the is claimed to be fact is merely the opinion of a person who is ignerant to a great degree, being any given answere is a product of the posters point of view, preferance, preferance of there informer, and of course there are many other contributing factors. So many I am unable to list all of them. The following is a list of piano manufacturers who are widely considered to be some of the finest,Steinway & Sons, Bosendorfer, Bechstein, Yamaha, Erard (no longer in function), and Pleyel.Which piano brand is the best piano brand is defined mostly by matter of personal taste. To define "the best" you should first list the qualities in which a piano brand could excel or diverse. In general those are:the materials used (durability / friction / easy acces for replacement of the parts)acoustic / scale design (this will influence the tone / voice of the piano)mechanical design (dimensional shapes, ratio, and weight calibrations in both action and keyboard that will influence the touch of the piano)casing / artwork / design (to many pianists this is the least important one)Both the voicing and the regulation of a piano afterwards (at home, in the shop, or on stage) will determine wether the piano makes use of it's full potention, and will be able to tweak the sound and the touch of a piano a little towards an individual pianists taste. When looking at the above there are some brands known to manufacture piano's of very high quality materials, with a carefully calibrated and designed action and keyboard, that possess more potential than some of the other piano's out there, and that are generally considered to be top-class-brands (for what that's worth)Here I would like to specifically mention some of them:Of course there is Steinway, but bear in mind that there is a difference between piano's manufactured by the Hamburg Steinway factory and the New York Steinway factory, in favour of the german one. Also one of my personal favourites and considered to manufacture unprecedented piano's is Fazioli. (It's a relatively young Italian brand)And than there is Grotrian Steinweg, also from Germany, which is known to manufacture highly appreciated piano's for centuries now, and was started by one of the Steinweg brothers (the other one went to the US and changed his name to Steinway)Bösendorfer and Yamaha should probably also be mentioned here, along with maybe few others. There are and have been many other good quality brands, and also the above mentioned brands are and have been producing various sub-brand piano's that vary in quality but some are quite good! You should also remember that a brands quality may vary over time, when factories get taken over by different companies, or a different management, or when (partial) manufacturing is outsourced to other countries and factories. In the end choosing your own perfect piano all comes down to listening and playing and than, after narrowing down your selection, calling an independent pianotechnician to join you and inspect the instruments you're interested in.

Why does the pianos register include more than 7 octaves?

In fact, the reason that the piano has 88 keys (or more than 7 octaves) is because that's the range that was finalized by the American Steinway piano makers in the early 20th Century. Until then, the piano's register had been growing constantly from the original 5 octaves (49 keys, F through F) of Mozart's pianos to 5.5 octaves (56 keys, F to high C) in Beethoven's required register, to 6 octaves (61 keys, F to high F) which were called for by Schubert, to 7 octaves (85 keys, A through high A), which is what most composers of the greatest piano music would have been content with. The Steinway manufacturers figured the highest note on the piano ought to be C rather than A, so they extended the range with three more keys in the upper register. It was there that the range of the modern piano would be finalized. Older pianos with 85 keys are still in existence though, especially in Europe. The Bösendorfer piano makers still make their "Imperial Grand" pianos with 100 keys, extending the range to over 8 octaves, from low C to D above that of the modern Steinway. Few composers have ever actually written for such a register, and as the extra notes are simply not popular enough to merit their being included in the standard piano, they remain only on the Bösendorfer Imperial Grand.

How-to fix a piano after it was rained on We got a piano after it had been rained on we'd like to know if it is fixable so we can keep it.?

Depends on the brand name and how much water got on it... But generally speaking if it isn't a family heirloom or has some other significant value.. Throw it away and get another.AnswerI was actually curious to know about Steinway and restoration processes, and landed on this blog I am sure most people would still want to work on their Steinway and even if it gets damaged some way or other, like me, would want to have it repaired - that's because Steinway is still the brand known for the finest instruments built by hand. The difficulty that most of the owners of antique Steinway Grand Piano face is lack of adequate after-service for Steinway , my cousin recently had to spend hours together to trace the right agency who can do the job. You can actually contact the experts at: http://www.lindebladpiano.comAlternately, you can also go here to restore your wet piano: http://www.lindebladpiano.com/restoration.htmI was also interested in knowing how piano restoration work is done, and found an impressive video at: http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=D7YPCwb72eoRegards,Bhaskar KarampudiDepends on a lot of things. Pianos being wood, they can warp greatly. Depends what shape the keys are in, and the action between the keys and the mallets that strike the wires/stings. Is it all keys or just some? does it just sound off? Sadly, I don't know unless you give me more information. All that said, you can find a used one for cheap and even free sometimes. Just get one out of your local newspaper. Ours regularly has pianos in the *to be given away/bargin* section. Being a piano restorationist of 20 years experience, I can say with confidence that, despite their complexity, pianos can endure some of the most horrible occurances. I had a family member who left their piano outside in the rain and snow for two or three years. When they finally moved it into their trailor, the thing actually still played OK. Now, that is obviously an extreme example and you can't count on it to be the case with yours. However, piano movers (and I know dozens) expose pianos to bits of raindrops getting pianos in and out of the house and their truck every day with no harm to the piano. Especially if you wife it off right away with a soft absorbant cloth towel. If you wish to learn more about high end piano restoration, the biggest web site on piano restoration on earth is located at http://www.pianorestoring.com/index.htm. I think that it has something like 379 pages of data listed for free.
