If you are referring to why the song mentions being a "machine in la la land", I believe it has to do with society. Some people tend to think they need to follow the "norm" set by those around them. When she mentions being a machine, she is referring to the people who feel they have no choice but to follow the example of other people who may have fame or fortune. Like the ever present view that girls need to weight under 120 pounds, that science lovers are nerds, and that being modest is "not cool." The la la land portion also refers to this concept when the individual is so caught up in trying to fit in, that they are oblivious to the world around them and the fact that they need to find their own voice in society. You will notice that in the music video, Lovato turns away from the "norm" and does things her own way.

lala land machine in demi's song means Hollywood "the buisness" how it's all fame glitz and galmour, lala land = Hollywood the buisness, machine= getting transformed, programed into the sterotype the buisness holds

it is saying that she donst want to be apart of the sterotypical mould "fit"
