The Tennessee State Mockingbird can be found in a variety of habitats, for example in grassy lawns, roadside, farms, rose thickets, shrubs, forest edges. Since they are non-migratory birds, they are year round residents once established.

The northern mockingbird was designated as the state bird of Texas in a decision passed under the Texas Legislation of 1927.

In 1927, a nationwide selection of state birds began when the legislatures of seven states, including Texas, began choosing their own winged state symbols. The rest of the states soon followed suit.

Interestingly, the northern mockingbird was the state bird chosen by four other states, in addition to Texas.

While the Mockingbird is a common songbird, it is quite ferocious in protecting it's nest, eggs, and young. It is also the Official State Bird of several other states in the Union.
