On November 12th 2008, XM merged the channel selection of XM Radio and Sirius Sattelite Radio. This merger created a lot of redundant channels, so many were dropped.
Other channels are dropped due to lack of listenership. Also, layoffs at XM meant a good of number of "DJ's" were off the air. This caused further channel consolidation.
