The purpose of a harp instrument is to calm yourself or someone down. The harp has a very soft sound and is played by plucking your fingers on the strings. It could easily calm someone down or put someone to sleep.

String instruments that aren't the harp are all in the "violin family". That's their name. And the harp isn't part of the violin family. The violin family instruments are all shaped the same way. The double bass isn't part of this family though. It's part of a different one called the Da Gamba family, or the Viol family. A viol is an old fashioned violin. But that's going into more complicated detail.

But that's the difference between the harp and other string instruments. I hope it helped!

A harp has strings and because of the fact that those strings are vibrating to make sound, it makes it an instrument.
