Artie Lange has not been a regular on the Howard Stern Show in recent years primarily due to his struggles with substance abuse and personal issues. He took a hiatus from the show in 2009 and has faced various health challenges since then. Although he has made occasional appearances, his ongoing recovery and commitments have kept him from being a consistent part of the show. It began as an Artie Kornfeld/Michael Lang proposal to build a recording studio in Woodstock NY. The two approached John Roberts and Joel Rosenman, New York City entrepreneurs, for funding. Rosenman suggested they scrap the studio idea and have a concert instead. They chose the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival as a model. They had no idea, until shortly before Woodstock took place, that millions would be drawn to the festival and that close to 500,000 would actually gain entry to the site. In August of 1969, the "counterculture" of the late 60's transformed a concert into a legendary event that named a generation.
