If your finger is just lightly held over a guitar or bass string it is called a "muted note". In order to produce a sound on a guitar or bass you must either have you finger placed firmly on one of multiple frets. When no frets are held that is called an open note, or string.

Remember to have a tight grip on the pick with your fingers, but not so tight that it effects your flicking.

How does and electric guitar work?

you plug it into an amplifier and the electricity goes into whats called the input jack making the pickups magnets pick up on the sound frequencies. when you hit the strings the sound goes throughout the body and if you fret (place fingers over) the one or more strings anywhere on the body you get different notes, near the body of the guitar high , near the head low.

What guitar is easyer to learn electric bass guitar or electric guitar?

When starting a stringed instrument the hardest thing to learn is how to place your fingers on the strings in a comfortable way, most people tend to press too hard causing cramps in their hands as well as do not have an easy time stretching their fingers. Between electric guitar, electric bass and adding in acoustic guitar, electric guitar is the easiest to develop strength in your hands without become discouraged too quickly. Also consider the length of your fingers, smaller hands have a harder time on bass at first. Regardless of your hand strength overtime you will be able to move across the fret board with ease.

How does the acoustic guitar work?

The guitar produces sound when the strings are plucked, either with the fingers or with the plectrum. The plucking of the strings causes the string to vibrate. These vibrations are transferred to the soundboard and the along the whole length of the strings. The vibrations travel to the end that is fixed on the bridge. On the way, the saddle absorbs the vibrations and they are transferred to the bridge, and then to the interior of the body or the sound box. The air inside the sound box absorbs the vibrations and ultimately, the amplified notation floats out of the sound hole. This process takes place with the every notation. Guitar players hold down the strings in various different combinations on the fret board to produce multiple notations and different sounds.
