Sometimes orchestras have 5 horns instead of 4, where the 5th person is the assistant principal. That player covers some of the 1st part so the principal player can stay fresh for solos.
2 Horns, 2 Trumpets, 3 Trombones.
Strictly speaking there are six horns in a brass band. * Flugel Horn (1) * Tenor Horn (3) * Baritone Horn (2) However, brass band players and conductors commonly refer to these instruments simply as "Flugel", "Horn" and "Baritone". In this context the number of horns is three (i.e. the three Tenor Horns).
The term "5 4 on the AM radio dial" typically refers to a frequency of 540 kHz, which is the lower end of the AM radio band. In this context, "5 4" indicates the numbers 5 and 4, where 5 represents 500 kHz and 4 denotes 40 kHz, leading to a total of 540 kHz. This frequency is often used by various radio stations for broadcasting.
