Why would an abusive ex keep saying things to mutual friends to make you look like you were so pathetic and had no worth but say it in a way that he looks concerned and civil?

He's furious that he's lost control over you and he's using those people to try to get in touch with you and obviously his plan is working if you know so much. Abusers are about control and if anyone is going to leave the abuser feels it will be him and not his victim. I got news for this guy. No matter how crafty he is, there is always and "air" about a guy that abuses. It's just something one can feel in the pit of their stomach (if they are paying attention) and they automatically don't care for the person. I wouldn't get too upset, because if these mutual friends are the friends you want and need in your life they aren't going to buy his act or they will feel there are two sides to every story. Get away from this guy! You haven't really left the control of your abuser, so start standing on your own two feet. If you need help to get on with your life there are great programs out there for abused women to take. All you need to do is call your closest Abused Women's Center or, Mental Health. You don't have to prove ANYTHING to anyone, but yourself! Stay strong! Marcy
