In a 1996 Saturn, the preamp for the radio with an equalizer is typically integrated within the stereo unit itself. This means the preamp is housed inside the radio assembly located in the dashboard. If the vehicle is equipped with an external amplifier, that unit may also contain preamp functions, but in most cases, the radio handles the preamplification internally.
I think it means you can buy a satellite radio receiver, and your stereo will accept it's input without modification.
You are supposed to strip the wire.
Each radio has it's own code, and no 2 are the same. You will have to cantact your Saturn dealer.
If you turn up your interior dashboard light settings, then the radio display will be brighter too. The radio dims to the setting for the dashboard when the lights are turned on.

To remove the radio from a 2003 Saturn Ion, first disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Next, use a flathead screwdriver or a trim removal tool to carefully pry off the trim panel surrounding the radio. Once the trim is removed, unscrew the bolts securing the radio in place, then gently pull the radio out of the dashboard. Finally, disconnect the wiring harness and antenna cable from the back of the radio.

yes it will fit, but not without modification to the dash bezel, and a little fiberglassing to bring it back to a factory look.
